About The Film

Investigating the urban legend behind a strange painting sold on eBay rumored to come to life in the middle of the night, filmmaker Gregg Gibbs goes on a journey to discover the truth behind the superstitious claims that spurred a internet sensation. Combining aspects of documentary and horror movie genres, "The Haunted Painting" confronts irrational beliefs; surrounding hoaxes versus facts, superstitious beliefs and society's obsessive fascination with the unknowable. The cumulative results lead to discoveries both shocking and surprising. 

 

DIRECTOR’S BIO

Gregg Gibbs is an artist, writer and director who lives in Los Angeles. His first documentary "The Treasures of Long Gone John" premiered at SXSW 2006 and went on to play numerous film festivals including Melbourne International, Leeds FF and MOMA New York. Additional films include "I, Gauguin" which premiered at the Calgary IFF 2011 and the short film "Gone Again" which premiered at the Olympia Film Festival 2015. He is a contributing writer and short film director for Juxtapoz magazine, and continues to exhibit his artwork in galleries and museums. Recently his feature documentary "Olompali: A Hippie Odyssey" premiered at DocLands 2018.
